Sierra Almoloya

Sierra Almoloya is an early stage silver-gold-lead-zinc property in the Central Mexican Silver Belt, Mexico.

Project Update

A prior option holder on the property, Queenston Mining Inc., carried out a two years diamond drill program from July 2005 to August 2007.

Western Copper is currently seeking a joint venture partner for this property.

Location

Sierra Almoloya is a 17,500 ha (43,000 acre) property in Chihuahua State, Mexico, covering an historic Gold-Lead-Zinc-Silver mining district and located near the mining community of Hildalgo de Parral.

Historic production from the Cigarrero Mine on the Sierra Almoloya property, commenced in the 1850's resulting in exceptionally high concentrations of Ag, Pb, Zn and Au reported to be in excess of 1,250,000The Sierra Almoloya Property in the Central Mexican Silver Belt

tonnes grading 600 g/t Ag, 40% Pb, 25% Zn, 1% Cu and variable Au. Mining at Cigarrero ceased in the 1920's when the shallow oxide reserves were depleted, and the deeper sulphide mineralization could not be treated. In 2002, Western Silver Corporation consolidated land ownership in the district, which at one time had over a hundred individual owners.

The property is accessible by a network of roads, an adjacent airport and railway line. It contains in excess of fifty shafts, adits and exploration pits that exploited high-grade oxide chimneys and mantos using picks and shovels.

The property is strategically located along the intersection of two regional structures that host the operating Santa Barbara Mine (25 million tonnes @ 113 g/t Ag, 1.72% Pb, 3.34% Zn and 0.4 g/t Au) and the Naica Mine (26 million tonnes @ 213 g/t Ag, 5.9% Pb, 5.6% Zn and 0.4% Cu) in the Central Mexican Silver Belt, one of the worlds most productive regions for polymetallic Carbonate Replacement Deposits (CRD).
